Cave Tours Suspended Through Mid-winter for Elevator Replacement, No Cave Access
Due to a complete replacement and modernization of our elevator system, tours of Wind Cave will be closed from May, 2024, through mid-winter. There is no access to the cave during this project. Updates will be posted here when available.
Backcountry Closed Between January 13 to February 14, Except on Weekends and Holidays
Backcountry areas of the park will be closed from January 13 to February 14, except on weekends and holidays. This closure will allow park staff to undertake a management operation to reduce the presence of CWD in the park's elk population.

Wind Cave moves to cashless fee collection
Payments for cave tours, campground fees, as well as Interagency Passes at Wind Cave National Park, will be by credit/ debit cards or digital payments only. Cash and check payments will no longer be accepted.
Centennial Trailhead Parking
Reminder: Overnight parking without a camping permit is prohibited. Permits are not issued specifically for parking. Shuttles are available in the Black Hills for through hikers on the Centennial Trail.
